XFP is a standardized package for serial 10G optical transceiver modules. XFP optical modules are hot-swappable I/O devices that are inserted into 10-gigabit ports. They are independent of communication protocols and fully compliant with the standards of 10G fiber channel, 10G Ethernet, SONET/OC-192, and SDH/STM-64. They are small in size and very compact in appearance, taking up very little circuit board space. They support data rates from 9.8Gbps to 11.3Gbps and are available in wavelengths of 850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm, CWDM, and DWDM. They can transmit up to a distance of 100 kilometers and are used for fiber optic connections in data communication and telecommunications transmission networks.
